Today is Sunday and it is hella freezing. As such i intend to stay in as much as possible and make a lot of pots of tea.

I have just finished my application to take part in the Chorlton Arts Festival which i am both excited and nervous about. Wish me luck!

In addition to this, and as part of 2012's 'get stuff done and stop complaining about stupid things that dont matter' manifesto i am also actively looking for cafes and other lovely spaces in the local area that might display my work. That would be great.
If anyone knows anywhere in the Manchester area that might be able to help me out- please get in touch!

Hello!
Had a really nice few days off work pottering about the flat and zipping to Sheffield to see some animals and friends.
Everyone knows new year resolutions are totally stupid but i sort of quietly do them every year anyway. I broke this years already.
Trying to not love and not being an idiot is harder than i had anticipated.
Still sewing, still dreaming about the wrong kind of things and still eating too many biscuits. Hopefully the next post will be more positive and less cryptic!

I finished a little sewing thing and saw some pasty shaped kitchen wear in a charity shop. I visited the old lady and ate alot of oranges in an attempt to combat this cold.

Remembering September

When we arrived we took the Bart to the hostel- i remembered everything from the time before.

In SF we went to the Golden Gate Bridge, took a SIX hour walk along the coast to the park. we went to Haight Street and saw a groundhog. We ate at Wholefoods and got leered at by $5 man.

When we headed for Santa Cruz i was ready to go. We walked to Fishermans Wharf before catching two buses and a train. I ate a giant peach and drank a tonne of coffee.

The hostel at Santa Cruz was beautiful. We shared with a German guy- Sebastian, and then a girl from Portland who worked with disadvantaged teens. She was really inspiring and sweet.
We walked along the boardwalk, posed with guns and took photos in the amusement arcades. A fortune telling machine told me i need to learn to keep a secret (fair point).

We found some amazing shops and tried on medieval dresses in Moonzoom. We hung out in Hoffmans drinking coffee all day and ate burgers with tonnes of gherkins and mustard. For breakfast i had eggs with oranges.

Next we headed for Santa Barbara and the toilets with no doors. We lay on the beach and i read a book about a man who kidnapped a pregnant woman so he could photograph her (and her unborn child)at the point of death and so escape his own eventual death. He got caught.
Two men tried to chat us up in the lamest way and we were not impressed. We got sunburn real bad and missed home a bit.

When we travelled to L.A we watched the sea go by through the window and i ate a stale bagel with cream cheese.
Someone tried to kill us but Lara foiled their plan. We walked along Hollywood Blvd and felt bummed out about it all. We saw a two headed tortoise and saw pictures of car crash victims and the Manson murders. We had massive ice creams and i cut myself a fringe.
We flew to Austin. I remembered the last time i was going to Texas when i cried in the toilets and felt like everything was falling apart and i had nothing to go back to. I don't think i felt so bad this time. I always miss people in airports.
Mark met us with a big smile and a hug and we had the best time- drinking dirty lemonades, dirty dancing in gay bars and lounging around at Barton Springs.
When it was time to come home i felt kind of mixed up about it. I still feel a bit mixed up.

Once i walked to uni convinced there was a wasp down my tights, and had to maintain some kind of believable calmness to my steps. Then, when i reached a toilet i had the doomy task of slowly and carefully pulling down my tights to release the nightmare- which turned out to be a sticker off my shoe.

It went a bit like this- Derby, Hatch'd, wine, snooze, greasy spoon cafe, charity shopping, massive curry (regretted afterwards), wine and cake, snooze, beautiful train ride, Sheffield, a drive to Nine Ladies, dramatic landscapes, country pub, massive cuppa, telly-athon, sofa sleep, craft fair, coffee, busiest worst train ever back home.

Each time i try and screenprint i totally hate it because it takes bloody ages and i always do it wrong and have to start again, and then i'm still there in the middle of the night getting paint all over myself and wanting to throw it all out the window and be DONE.

But then, just when i'm about to really give up and go to bed i finally get things working and i get really excited and it WORKS and suddenly i am making things that look like i want them to and then i remember the total joy that comes from persevering and winning and having a great sleep after...

Pennyfest Documentary from Philip Formby on Vimeo.

So the video's DONE for Pennyfest which took place in June. Watching it back made me do some really big grins and i feel like it really captured the spirit of the day.
Loads of money was raised for an excellent cause, and i'm super proud to say i got to be part of it all. Derby is bloody great.

Can't wait for the next one!

Been working dead hard after work to make loads of new things to put on my Etsy shop at the end of June.
Apologies to beloved housemates for taking over the lounge with scissors, loose threads and halfway abandoned work...

Ooh also, really excited to have done the album artwork for my good friend Tom's band Themakingof. Also currently working with Sheffield based band Algiers to do some illustrations/animations for a music video. Excited!

Last night i even started telling myself that if i didnt finish the word 'slaughter' before i fell asleep- someone would come into my room and kill me with a pair of fabric scissors.

This weekend has been a 7/10.

Weekends last a lot longer now that i am working part time, and whilst this is GREAT, i am painfully aware that this is probably the last time i will ever be able to afford to work part time.

On Friday i waited patiently for Lara to get back from work so we could eat curry and listen to Madonna and talk about how nightmarish our weeks have been and how scared we are of the next few years (or, really all of the years until we die).
We take a taxi to town and the driver tells us we look nice and this makes us happy because he says it with integrity.

We meet Katie and Tom and Hannah and so on and there is dancing, interspersed with about four moments of sadness related to a boy who i won’t talk about because i am trying to forget him.

Today i am trying to pack up my room in Derby to take it to Manchester where i will reside from now on. Packing is awful not only because there are just so many things and you never know where to start and everything ends up in a mess, but also because you inevitably find things like cards and letters from the past that make you feel so fucking sad. Instead of putting them away i am inclined to wallow and read everything thoroughly whilst listening to something suitably morose like Red House Painters.

I think it is cathartic, but also a bit masochistic.
I think i am ready to leave now.
